Blog Improvement Goals for 2009: Green Panda Treehouse

I’m working on some goals for 2009 for my blogs. I have two blogs running and hope to re-launch a third blog January. After doing the 30 Day Thesis Experiment, I decided to set some specific goals for my blogs for the upcoming year.

I decided to start with my biggest site, Green Panda Treehouse. I received these questions from Visionary Blogging.

1. What will I accomplish with my blog in 2009?

I guess I should start off by explaining what type of content I post on my site now. I write about personal finance for college students and new graduates. Topics range from opening an IRA, defending yourself against a bad mechanic, reducing credit card debt, making accelerated payments on your car loan, increasing income, and how to set up accounts when you’re married.

I’m going to slightly change my focus of my blog due to my own changing circumstances. I’m now going tofocus on personal finance for college students and twenty-somethings. It’s not a significant departure, but more of a gradual growth.

I try to write from my personal experience and now that I’m out of school, I want to share what I have learned. I’m going to focus on covering more in investing and career topics for the first few months and expand from there.

2. How will I make my blog more valuable in 2009?

There are many sites who can offer the quickest reviews and releases of news and products. I’m neither interested nor good at that. My focus is going to be giving more thorough posts. I’m going schedule my posts around 3-4x/week for the first 3 months and reevaluate in April. I’m looking to build depth into my articles. I want people to see my blog as resource. In January, I hope to have a new addition to the blog to expand its usefulness and build the community.

3. How will I make my blog design more charming in 2009?

Ah, this is definitely my weak point. I updated my site to the Thesis Theme and I have enjoyed working on it. I’m going to set aside time on my non-posting days to become more familiar with blog design and user interface.

My Goals for My Personal Finance Blog

I want to build my average visitors per day. My goal is to have 1,000 visitors each day on average by December 31, 2009. y first milestone is to reach 300 visitors a day by March 31, 2009. I’m using Site meter as my ruler.
I want to increase my subscribers to 2,000 by December 31, 2009. My first milestone is to get to 500 subscribers by March 31, 2009.
